Mum (Kris)

 

As Cypriot girls we were brought up to learn to cook, clean and sew. It was our job to help mum with the housework, shopping and, of course, the cooking. But it wasn't until much later, when I got married, that I wished I’d taken more notice, so I started to write down the recipes. I was always on the phone to mum asking her how long it should cook for or what else should I add. I miss her so much and wish I’d asked her more. Now I ring my sister, Maggi, and we compare our recipes which, invariably, differ slightly as they were told to us at different times.

Maggi and I were always going to write a book containing all the recipes but never got round to it. Thankfully, Sam’s passion for food and cooking is making this dream a reality. So we've been unearthing our scraps of paper with scribbled recipe notes and searching deep into our minds to come up with the Yiasoumi Family Recipes.
