We are Dasaki

Our family originated from the Village of Achna in the Famagusta District of Cyprus. It is now, however, since the unrest in the mid 1970’s abandoned and under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus. To this day a ghost town.

It's displaced inhabitants fled to the Achna Forest (Dasaki tis Achnas) about 100 meters away from the village. Our grandfather, Sam’s great grandfather, Yiasoumi, from whom the family name was taken, planted that forrest in his youth.

DASAKI is now a vibrant village built up from scratch by the former occupants of Achna. To us Dasaki represents preservation as well as regeneration.

Our dishes originate from the village recipes, cherished and handed down over generations. None of them were written down; they were just learned by watching them being cooked by our parents and grandparents.

We hope to do them justice, continue to keep them alive for the next generations and hope you enjoy them as much as we did when growing up.
